  • Curtis Leskanic's Home Theater
  • Tour the pro baseball player's unique home theater.
    From "Home Theater"
    episode DHTW-103

    (Continued from page 1)

    • With this regionalized lighting, the design team installed a specialty "high-contrast" big screen that's made of a special gray material that allows a brighter light in other areas of the room without washing out the picture (figure E).

    • The homeowners also chose a DLP front projector for the big screen and a LCD screen was installed within the cabinetry over the bar area (figure F).

    • Because of the size of the room (more than 800 square feet), a seven-point-one surround-sound system and two subwoofers were installed. And the audio equipment is stored away from the home theater (figure G)so it's not a distraction. This room incorporates a DVD player, high-definition satellite receiver and a high-definition cable television box.

    • Curtis and Susan also wanted to make sure they young children could enjoy this multi-purpose room, so they built a stage beneath the big screen. "We wanted to have a family room," Curtis said. "And we also have some Karaoke machines and stuff like that where you can go up and sing" (figure H).

    • And no home of a major league baseball player would be complete without lots of sports memorabilia, and Susan added her own decorative touch with a "tasty" design--popcorn machine and candy--mingled in with the sports memorabilia (figure I).

For the Leskanic family this multi-purpose home theater is much more than just a big screen, surround sound and electronics, it's a room that helps bring the family closer together.

In the next episode of Home Theater Workshop you find out how to construct acoustic treatments, hook up the electronics and install the surround-sound speakers.
