Install Half Wall Top = 3 hours
Remove and Install Vinyl Floor and Replace Bar Top = 5 hours
Finish Bar Top and Install Cabinets = 5 hours
Install Crown and Moldings and Light Fixtures = 5 hours

Total hours spent on Part 2 = 18 hours

We spent approximately $1,900 on supplies. If you were to hire a contractor to do this job, you would probably spend around $3,100. (Instructions continued below)

    1. For long walls, use 16 foot molding with a finish nail gun (figure A). You will need someone to help you with this stage of the project.

    2. Use 5-1/4-inch moldings and that will add an upscale look to the room. In the show Reveiz didn't have to remove the old molding, the new crown just covered it up.

Expert Tip: Cutting and sawing crown molding is not complicated, but it does take practice. Remember, you are cutting a compound angle. If it is a little off it will show, so practice cutting and fitting -- that way you won't make a mistake on the beautiful and expensive crown molding.

    3. Trimming and cutting around the tops of the cabinets is a little time consuming, but the cuts are not too difficult (figure B). Take your time here, because it will really pay off and give your cabinets a custom look.

    4. The base molding will go on fast. Remove the old molding first and then nail the new molding in. There may be a gap where the baseboard goes over the vinyl and to fix that just cover it with some quarter round (figure C).

    5. Around the base cabinets there are not as many intricate corners. Just cut and nail the molding as before.

    6. To hide imperfections in uneven ceilings and walls, caulk all of the trim (figure D).

    7. To replace your old light fixtures, turn off the power to the circuit. The wire connections for the lights should be the same. Using wire nuts, the connections are black to black and white to white and ground to ground (figure E).
