Before: The front walkway was presentable, but not what you'd call remarkable or unique.
    PHOTO

After: Porphyry granite, a popular European paving material, laid out in a distinctive fan pattern brings some old world charm to the home's entryway.
In this Rock Solid project, expert stone masons Derek Stearns and Dean Marsico bring Europe's most popular paver — porphyry — to a Florida walkway.

Below is a summary of the steps as seen in this project, as well as some installation tips and a list of materials and tools used.

    Materials and tools:

    porphyry cobblestone pavers
    jumbo granite cobblestone
    lime rock
    coarse sand
    clear marking coat
    euro-grout
    cement mixer
    jackhammer
    hand chisel
    stone hammer
    hammer gun
    wet saw
    gas compactor
    string
    stakes
    four-foot level
    measuring tape
    rake
    wheelbarrow
    rubber mallet
    chalk line
    trowel
    construction earmuffs
    goggles
    squeegee
    broom
    eye protection
    dust mask

Note: The quantities needed for each of these materials vary with application. For your specific project, Dean and Derek suggest taking the dimensions to a local dealer, where they will calculate the amount of each product needed.

Safety Alert: When mixing concrete, make sure to wear a safety mask to protect your lungs and prevent breathing of concrete dust.

    Design and Materials

Dean and Derek travel to Naples, Florida to build a classically stunning walkway out of timeless and durable porphyry granite.

From Egypt to Rome, porphyry is prized for its beauty and durability, but setting it in a cobble style can be difficult and time consuming. Until now.

Dean and Derek use a recently introduced product with pre-cut stones set in a fan pattern on a rubber backing, and a quick set grout system, to finish this walkway with all of the quality in half the time. With this contemporary product, they take a provincial concrete walk and transform it into an ageless elegant porphyry path.

Follow along through the step-by-step breakdown for this
