1. The crew removes the old door, then uses a pry bar to remove the surrounding exterior molding (figure A).2. A power saw is used to cut through the door's jamb to help facilitate the jamb's removal (figure B). Next, the jamb is pried from the doorway.
3. The new door and door frame are positioned for a test fit, then removed. Modifications are made as needed by the professional contractors.4. The crew is ready for the door installation. First, the crew measures the frame to ensure that area is flat, level and square. Next, butyl caulk is applied along the sub-floor and bottom sill (figure C).
5. The door is positioned as desired, marked, shimmed (figure D), and plumbed using 6 ft. level. The door is then secured at side jamb with 3" screws or 10d finishing nails.
6. Next, the team shims behind hinges and secures hinge jamb with door in place. On swing side of door, the door is shimmed near top and bottom of unfastened jamb, and any needed frame adjustments are made.7. The crew unclips and opens door, installs the door hardware and removes small margin shims.
8. Pilot holes (1/8") are drilled and #10 x 2-1/2" screws are used to anchor the door. With door closed, the crew shims between the jamb and opening behind the latch area.
9. The door is opened and the lockset hardware is installed, the sill is anchored and the corner seal pads are added.
10. The door is cleaned and the area is taped off in preparation for primer.
