    Materials:

    Standard carpentry tools (hammer, nails, tape measure, level, etc.)
    Circular saw
    Wood chisel
    Shims
    Spray-foam insulation
    Cold chisel
    Drill motor with screw and drill bits

    1. Installing the trim is as simple as putting it back into place, making sure it is level (figure A), or plumb for the side pieces, and finish nailing it down.


    2. Go back with caulk and fill in the nail holes (figure B). Give the trim a new coat of paint.


    3. If you are going to take the time and expense to install a new door, install new hardware also. If the strike plate doesn't fit right into the routed holes, mark it with a pencil and then use a chisel (figure C) until you get it to fit right. Just take your time and keep testing the strike plate until it fits flush with the edge of the door. You may also have to do the same thing for the deadbolt and the strike plates that mount onto the doorjamb.


    4. When you are installing nice hardware, it is a good idea to use a handheld screwdriver. It is too easy to slip with a drill motor. With a handle style door pull, you want to make sure it is level before you attach it.


    5. Paint the door and then add a brass kick plate. Just place it and make sure it is level. Then pre-drill through the holes and install with the supplied screws.
