Sunday, May 11, 2003 As I sit here on Mother's Day morning I really think about what happens next for the boys and me. Anyone who really knows me writes down my address in pencil because I move so much. This home means stability and security for my children AND myself. The house gives me a sense of roots, of foundation -- the base for my future plans. With one major goal under my belt, I would like to go back to school to get a Master's in Social Work. I have wanted to do this for some time but figured providing my children with something we could call our own was more important. All that being said, I will try to achieve a more attainable short-term goal of decorating my home! I really have the opportunity to show my creative (or not-so-creative) side. Saturday May 10, 2003 The Friday volunteers really worked hard, which made our job easier on Saturday. We started priming the house and laying down baseboards. We had another group of wonderful volunteers from Queens University as well as Bank of America. It was well in to the 90s today, and in the closets of the house it really felt like it. Cramped spaces and no air -- ugh! We had quite a few water breaks! My dad came to help me today. He is the master painter in our family (smile), and he was a big help. Several of the volunteers commented that it was really starting to look like a house, now but I felt it was a home when there was just the foundation. We couldn't have come this far without everyone's help.
