I am a 30-something mom of two elementary-school-age boys. I am a college grad with a degree in criminology but am working in the property management field. I assist families with obtaining affordable housing in Charlotte, North Carolina. I love my work, which is helping people in need, but my first love is criminology, and I would love to one day work with at-risk youths. I would like to go back to school and get my Masters, but finances are always an issue ... and time!

I enjoy spending my time with the boys at the park, riding bikes and roller blading ... while I run :) We also like to play UNO, chess and read with and to each other. This is usually done on the weekends and/or after homework is done -- and there is a lot of it! We also belong to the YMCA, which is where I met the woman who talked to me about Habitat. I had always wanted to volunteer, but at the time I was working on the weekends when the majority of volunteers come in. The rest is history!!

It has always been a goal of mine to own a home -- after all, I grew up in one, and I enjoy the freedom of painting the walls whatever color I like and decorating however I want. Being the "baby" of the family, my mom, dad and extended family are very supportive, proud and excited for me. Without their support, I would not have been able to do it. Everyone needs some help, and this is what I tell my applicants and residents alike. But it doesn't come without effort on your part. Habitat has helped me to achieve a lifelong dream -- and now my boys can have their own rooms, a "life" long dream of theirs!
