    The newly installed fireplace and built-in bookshelves help define a seating area that adds a distinct new space to the room environment.
    As part of an equity-building upgrade for a 1930's vintage Cape Cod, a couple installs a gas burning fireplace to create an inviting seating area in the master bedroom. With the help of the Sweat Equity crew, they also make some improvements to storage and replace dated wooden paneling and wallpaper with freshly painted walls.

    Here's the dollar breakdown on the project:

    Final Tally:

    gas fireplace $2,800
    enameling $1,100
    cabinets $4,000
    tile $90
    refinishing floor $1,000
    materials $300

    total = $9,290

    realtor's estimated value increase = $20,000
    total cost of material = $9,290

    net return on investment = $10,710
