Installing a Pre-hung DoorSafety Alerts:
- Always wear eye protection and follow proper safety precautions when working with power tools or pneumatic tools.
- Check for obstructions such as wiring and plumbing fixtures in the wall by cutting a small hole in the drywall. Use a flashlight to search within the wall.
- If there are wires or plumbing they must be re-routed.
Tip: Hanging a pre-hung door is a simple project, but check level, square and plumb often!
Steps:
- Cut a hole in your wall at least two and a half inches wider than your door (figure A). For most doors this would be 82 1/2 inches high by 32 1/2 inches wide (figure B).
- Set your door into place (figure C).
- Use a level and shims to check plumb and thoroughly (figure D).
- Attach your jamb to the doorframe with nails and a hammer.
- Open and close your door to test, attach door handle and hardware.
