Coffee Table SeatHalf of an old dining table is used to create a coffee table with built in seating.
Materials:half of a thrift store table 1" plywood cut 50"x13" 1" plywood cut 2 1/2"x49" 2 1/2" pieces of plywood cut 2 1/2"x39" 2" foam black and white curtains hinges and locks
1. Take the legs off the table. The legs will eventually be cut to 14 1/2 inches tall, and then painted black.2. Cut the filler piece--1/2 inch plywood to 2 1/2" x 49". 3. Cut the plywood pieces that will hold the hinges (two pieces of 1/2 inch plywood 2 1/2" x 39"), and then attach them to the filler pieces. 4. Cut the backing piece. Draw a curve on the wood, and then cut out with a jigsaw. Sand down the rough edges. Note: The piece should measure 50 inches wide and the highest point on the curve should be 13 inches tall.

5. Attach the filler piece to the table (figure J). This piece will flush out the lip on the back and will not be seen.6. Attach the plywood pieces to both the table and the backer. These pieces will hold the hinges and are needed so that the locks that will be added have room to open and close. 7. Attach the hinges to the backer seven inches from each side. 8. Attach the hinges to the table at a corresponding location. 9. Attach the locks (figure K)one at each side (five inches from the side). The locks will be attached to the filler and backer directly and sit next to the additional plywood added. This will give the locks the needed room when the backer is down. Otherwise, the pieces would hit each other and the backer wouldn't fold down all the way. 10. Spray adhesive onto the foam, and then apply the fabric and staple. Note: You will need to remove some of the hardware in order to cover the piece properly in fabric. It's important to make sure all of the mechanics are in order before covering in fabric. 11. Reattach all of the hinges (figure L) and locks.
Project Expense:Table Half: $10 Fabric: $2.50 Foam: $10 Materials: $10 Total: $32.50
