Shelving/HeadboardSufboard-shaped shelves are attached to the wall above the bed, creating storage and a faux headboard.
1. Paint two pieces of 6' x 12" pine or poplar boards using paint leftover from the wall technique ("Mandarin Orange" and "Daredevil"). Draw a wave or curve detail at the very edge of the board to resemble a surf board (figure D). Cut out using a jigsaw, and then sand the unpainted edges until smooth.2. Measure in 12 inches from each end of the board, and then cut a 4 x 4 square hole with a jigsaw (figure E). Sand the rough edges.
3. Using six inch heavy duty "L" brackets (figure F), attach the shelves to the bed by slipping the shelf over the two posts at the four inch square hole to a height of 16 inches from the top of the platform, and then attach with wood screws (figure G).4. Repeat step three for the second shelf at the height of 26 inches from the bed. Adjust the shelf height as needed for your bed. 5. Add decals for an authentic surf board look.
