1. Cut cotton "duck" canvas to desired length and width remembering to add additional one inch on all sides for a hem.2. Fold edges of canvas under one inch and press. Stitch or glue along all four sides in order to hold the hem in place. 3. Secure the canvas temporarily to a flat surface such as the floor, a table or a wall using tacks or duct tape. Pull the canvas taut and secure every six to eight inch on all four sides. 4. Gesso or paint with white, flat latex paint. Paint the back of the canvas first. Paint the entire canvas back allowing it to dry completely. 5. Remove the tacks or duct tape, turn the canvas over and repeat the gesso latex paint on the front, and then allow the paint to dry.
6. Lightly trace your desired design with a pencil onto the cloth (figure A).7. Fill in your design with various colors (watercolor, latex, ink based, and oil paints can by used) allow the paint to dry (figure B). 8. Finish floor cloth with four to five coats of high quality latex based polyurethane for maximum durability and protection. Note: It's not recommended that floor cloths be placed over carpeting as they are more likely to "crack" or "craze".
