    1. Measure up to 63 inches from the floor and create a horizontal line with a level and pencil. Tape off underneath the line all the way around the room. Paint the ceiling and drop down area using "Rhapsody Lilac" (figure A). Allow it to dry before taking the next step.

    2. Tape off above the 63 inch line with painters blue tape. Find the center point on each wall, and then draw a straight vertical line along the center point of each wall using a level. Tape each of these lines with painters blue tape. Paint from one center-of-wall to the next center-of-wall line on the adjacent wall using "Impulsive Purple". Allow it to dry.

    3. Tape along the inside edge of the freshly painted area, and then paint from that center-of-wall line to the next using "Kismet".

    4. Repeat steps two and three for the next two sections.

    Horizontal Stripes

Horizontal stripes are added to the wall to create a faux headboard.

    Paint:

    Queenly SW 6977
    Verve Violet SW 6979

    1. Start by measuring the width of your bed and desk. In our case, each was 42 inches. We added an extra 6 inches on each side to create the appearance of a headboard and matching study area. This was a total width of 54 inches.

    2. Center the striped area on each wall by measuring the complete length of the wall, and then subtracting 54 inches (the width of the bed) from that measurement. In our project, the wall length was 162 inches, subtract 54 inches to get 108 inches. Divide that number in half, which equals 54 inches.

    3. Measure in from the corner of each wall 54 inches, or the measurement you had after using the formula above. Make a vertical pencil mark up to the 63 inch line using a level.

    4. Measure over from the vertical line another 54 inches (the bed width) and repeat the vertical mark. This will demarcate the area to create the painted horizontal feature within.

    5. Divide the space horizontally by creating six stripes measuring 10 1/2 inches deep. Measure down from the 63 inch line every 10 1/2 inches, and then make a level horizontal line with a pencil.

    6. Tape off above and below the line for each stripe, making sure to alternate every other stripe.

    7. Paint every other stipe with "Queenly" (figure B). Allow to dry, and then re-tape and paint the remaining stripes with "Verve Violet".

Note: For a more pronounced headboard look, you could add an additional stripe above the 63 inch mark (figure C).
