    1. Begin with a square piece of MDF that measures approximately 48" x 36". Trace or draw the shape of your choice onto the surface with a pencil. A simple curved shape tends to be much easier to draw and cut out than shapes with a lot of angles. Using a Jig Saw (scroll saw) cut out the shape you've traced onto the MDF (figure C), and then sand any rough edges with 220-grit sandpaper.

    2. Paint the MDF "Feather White". While the paint is drying, paint the cut-out letters spelling "Sweet Dreams" with "Honey Comb", Hopeful, Tanager, Leapfrog, Fabulous Grape, and Avid Apricot. When the background and letters are dry, attach the letters to the headboard using construction adhesive (figure D).

    3. Install by securing two heavy duty eyelet hooks into the top of headboard at to coordinate with the eyelet hooks located on the bottom of the cleat. Attach the headboard to the headboard cleat using a clasp hook (similar to those used for dog chains).
