  • The Bensons' Blah Bedroom
  • From "DIY to the Rescue"
    episode DTTR-202

Tim and Heidi Benson's master bedroom has an identity crisis. It is an office, home gym and playroom for three young sons. The Bensons would like to reclaim the space as their own, and the DIY to the Rescue crew has a plan that will add adult ambiance and transform this multi-use space into a real bedroom.

With the cluttered desk to Heidi's right and an uninviting bed to her left, it's clear to see there's no separation between home office and bedroom in the Benson household.

The cluttered desk -- in the bedroom -- is a cause of stress for the couple.

The secondhand furniture, courtesy of Tim's parents, is showing its age.

Here are a few of the projects the crew will undertake to create a restful retreat:

    • Install custom wainscoting and molding
    • Faux finish the walls damaged by the previous owners' wallpaper removal
    • Banish the old desk and add new storage
    • Paint the 30-year-old bedroom furniture inherited from Tim's parents
    • Upgrade the mattress and size of the bed and build a new headboard
