A duvet, also called a continental quilt, is a comforter filled with down, feathers or wool. Change the look of a bedroom with an easy-to-make duvet cover stitched from sheets. DIY Decorating & Design host Nancy Golden explains how. A duvet cover is a giant pillowcase, cut slightly larger than the duvet and left open at one end. The end may be closed with Velcro®, a zipper or fancy button pins. Use two twin-size flat sheets to cover a twin duvet. One sheet should be cut about 6" longer than the other to form a flap at the open end of the duvet cover ( figure A). Lay the two sheets flat, right sides together, and sew a seam along the bottom and two sides. Turn the duvet cover right side out, and tuck the duvet inside. Add fancy button-pins to the flap to serve as fasteners (figure B). To create a button pin, hot-glue a pin-back to a large button. Add another, smaller button to the front of the bigger one, if desired. Nancy used three button pins to close this twin-size duvet cover; evenly space six or seven fasteners on a larger duvet.
