Grout 101- Grout doesnt just look good: It keeps water, dirt and debris from working its way down between tiles. A good grouting job will help keep the tiling project looking good for years; sloppy grouting can lead to water damage and maintenance problems.
Wearing safety glasses and a dust mask, use a drill with a mixer bit to mix grout according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use the type of grout recommended for the tile. Pre-mixed grout is also available, but is more appropriate for smaller jobs.Safety Alert: Always wear safety glasses and a dust mask when mixing powdered grout. Also, use caution when working with a drill or other power tools. Remove any tile spacers from between the tiles before starting to grout. Make sure the area is clean and free of debris, and that the tile adhesive has cured for the correct length of time.Starting in one corner, spread grout on the floor with a grout float held at a 45-degree angle (figure A). Work the grout well into the joints between the tiles.Let the grout sit for a few minutes until it begins to dry. Wipe away the haze with a damp sponge (figure B).Let the grout cure according to the manufacturer's instructions, then seal with a recommended grout sealer for easier maintenance.
