    From "Bathroom Renovations"
    episode DBTR-509

This remodel opens up a lot more bathroom area for Matt, Michelle and their four kids, but saving space is still a good idea. A traditional pocket door adds privacy in the bathroom without taking up floor space; Amy Matthews shows Matt how to install one.

    Install Pocket Door

    • Amy Matthews had a professional do the precision carpentry for the pocket door frame, including installation of the door track.

    • Lock tabs will connect the door to nylon rollers that will roll along the door track. Position the lock tabs along the top edge of the door and mark the location for the holes (figure A).

    • Drill pilot holes at the marks (figure B), then use screws to attach the lock tabs. Rrub the threads of the screws across a bar of soap to help lubricate them before screwing in.

Safety Alert: Always wear safety glasses and use caution when working with a drill or other power tools.

    • At the door frame, slide the nylon rollers out into the door opening (figure C).

    • Position the door and have a second person steady it. Climb a short stepladder to get a good look at the mechanism, and use a screwdriver to slide the nylon rollers into place over the lock tabs. Use a screwdriver to pop the lock tabs and roller mechanisms together and hang the door.
