How to Tile a Bathroom (by John Palanca)

    1. Measure area you intend to tile.

    2. Split that number in half to determine the center point.

Note: It's important to make sure that your horizontal and vertical lines are level (figure A). These lines will be your guides for laying the tiles.

    3. Mark the center point of one of your tiles.

There are two ways to go about this step —

      • Start on the center point of tile (figure B).

      • Mark the actual positions of the tile on the wall to get the size of the tile you need to cut at the edge of the wall.

    4. Start on the center point of the line.

    5. Mark the actual positions of the tile on the wall to get the size of the tile you need to cut at the edge of the wall (figure C).

    6. Based on the two different sets of marks on the walls, decide which method offers a more attractive finish.
    7. Place a nailer at the bottom of the area you wish to tile for a level straight line to hold up the tiles temporarily (figure D).

    8. Apply tile adhesive to the wall with a notched trowel.

    9. Lay your tile in out from the center point you have chosen (figure E).

    10. Allow to dry for 24 to 48 hours.
