Concrete Shower Base Installation
1. To build the dam, cut 1x6 to length on a miter saw and set the boards in place following the existing shower layout. Use screws to hold it in place (figure A). It will be removed once the concrete sets.
2. Cut shower pan liner to size with a utility knife. Make it the size of the base, plus six inches to go up the sides (figure B).
3. Lay out membrane in shower area (figure C). Be sure it is pulled and folded tightly in the corners to make a smooth surface for the cement board and tile.
4. Cut out for the drain. Remove the top flange and fit the membrane around the drain. Tighten the screws and attach the drain grill (figure D).
5. Mark 2-3/4" off the floor as a guide for the poured concrete.
6. Pour buckets of concrete in the pan and smooth it out with a finish trowel (figure E).
