    Tiling Shower

    1. Screw a batten board into the wall to support the tiles (figure A).

    2. Seal the seams in the cement board with self-adhesive mesh tape (figure B).

    3. Mix up the thinset and, with a six inch mud knife, spread the mud over the tape to fill the seams (figure C).

    4. Using a quarter-inch square notch trowel, spread the thinset on the wall. Cover only as much area as you can tile in 15 minutes (figure D). Use a premium thinset in a wet area like a shower, especially for large tiles.

    5. Press the tiles against the wall, giving each a slight twist to create a suction that will hold them to the wall (figure E).

    6. Place 1/8 inch spacer between the tiles for the grout lines (figure F).

    7. To make narrow cuts along the edges of the tile, use a wet saw (figure G). To cut in the middle of tiles, use a tile breaker (figure H), which scores a line down the middle and cracks it.

    8. Set the cut edges against the wall (figure I).
