    Install the Shower Pan

    1. Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the cement board underlayment (figure A) and press into place (figure B). Attach the board to the floor with cement board screws.

    2. Cut away the excess drainpipe with a flexible, six inch blade on the reciprocating saw (figure C). Cut the pipe flush with the cement board.

    3. Apply construction adhesive to the bottom of the shower base, making sure to cover each cleat and the area around the drain hole (figure D).

    4. Press the shower pan into place. Apply pressure until you have the perfect fit (figure E).

    5. Install the drain assembly. Use soapy water to help ease the rubber ring in (figure F), then drop in the drain cover.

    Installing Shower Walls and Niche

    1. With a circular saw, cut the cement board to size (figure G).

    2. Use a hole saw to make cuts in the boards for the plumbing (figure H).

    3. Drill the boards to the wall with porcelain-lined cement screws (figure I). If the screw won’t go in, pound the screws with a hammer to knock them into place and then continue screwing. Make sure the screw head goes below the surface of the board.

    4. Determine the height of the niche (figure J), and mark.

    5. Transfer the measurements to the cement board.

    6. With a circular saw, make a plunge cut along the cut line and carefully make the cut-out (figure K).

    7. Apply construction adhesive to the back of the niche and press into place (figure L).
