Door Staining From "Bathroom Renovations" episode DBTR-209

Homeowner Mel visited a decorating store to match stain for the new ironing center door. He and Amy then got to work on the staining!

Tape measure
Level
Cardboard template
Pencil
Jab saw
Reciprocating saw

Door Staining

Abrasive sanding pad
Rubber gloves
Tack cloth
Stain
Brush
Cloth rag
Bottle caps

Replacing Grout

Door Staining

1. Sand the door to a smooth surface. Be careful not to change the profile of the grooves, and always sand with the grain of the wood (figure A).

2. Wipe away the sanding dust with a soft tack cloth (figure B).

3. Wearing rubber gloves, apply the stain with the grain of the wood. Keep the application as even as possible (figure C).

4. Once the surface is covered, remove the excess with a cloth rag (figure D).

5. Flip the door over onto a few bottle caps so you can stain the back while the front is drying (figure E).
