    1. To install a new toilet, set the wax ring into place around the drain hole (figure A).

    2. Carefully set the new toilet in place, making sure the new closet bolts come up through the holes in the toilet flange.

    3. Give the toilet a slight wiggle to set the toilet into the wax.

    4. Tighten the closet nut bolts, but do not over tighten them because you could crack the toilet.

    5. Some closet bolts are made to break away; if not, you have to cut the bolt with a hacksaw or a reciprocating saw (figure B).

    6. The homeowners put in a new GFI outlet. When Joe went to install the outlet, he saw the hot wire, and neutral wire, but there was no ground wire. Amy said a ground strap needed to be attached. Ground straps (figure C) are easy to find. You can find them at any home center or hardware store. In older homes, there is a flexible metal conduit that is running through the walls and that is where the wires run. That entire system is grounded.

Note: Always shut power off at the main breaker before doing electrical work.

    7. Joe's new outlet needed to be connected to that system. One end screwed into the metal box and the other end connected to the new outlet (figure D). The ground tap has a self-tapping hex screw. If there is no hole in the box, just drill a 3/16th hole and drive the screw into that.

In the final segment an expert cleans the old tile floor and a new shower curtain rod is installed.
