More Plumbing for the Steam Shower

    1. The shower system has an electronic key pad that controls the shower, body sprays, timer, and faucets. Beside the electronic key pad, there are the valves and a computer box (figure A).

    2. A knee wall will be built and put in the basement underneath the shower that will house the valves and computer box. They could be placed in the wall between the shower and tub, but if they need servicing, the wall will have to be opened. When the knee wall is built, copper piping will be run down from the body jets and showerheads to the basement and tied in.

    3. Build the knee wall out of 2 x 4's according to the manufacturers directions (figure B). Use green treated lumber on the bottom because it will be sitting on concrete.

    4. Nail the knee wall right into the floor joists so that it will be nice and sturdy.

    5. The valve box mounts right inside the knee wall with holes on the side for the connections (figure C).

    6. The electronic module is mounted the same way.

    7. The next step is to nail backer boards between the 2 x 4's in the shower every six inches up the wall to hold the supply lines in place. Mark the heights where the body jets will be placed.

    8. Put up backer boards between the studs (figure D) to hold the supply lines in place.

    9. Drop the supply lines into the previously drilled holes.

    10. Make sure the copper pipes are plumb before attaching them to the backer boards with plastic anchor clips (figure E).

    11. Do the same thing on the other side of the shower to run a line for the hand-held showerhead and any other supply lines.

In segment three, the contractor explains the fiber optic showerhead and the exhaust steam fan is installed.
