Plans for the New Bathroom and Demolition

    1. The homeowners (Kristen and Jake) purchased a home by the lake with a spacious and open floor plan, but a bathroom that was really outdated. The bathroom had three doors -- one to the guest room, one to the closet and one where the tub and toilet were located. The tub and bathtub were yellow, and there was carpet on part of the floor. Also, they had a plumbing issue -- a leak in the back wall of the tub where water seeped down and destroyed part of the ceiling in their dining room. They want to turn the bathroom with the three little compartments into one big bathroom that has a much better flow.

    2. The following things will be done to renovate the bathroom:

      • Open up the wall that encloses the tub and toilet area (figure A).

      • Install an acrylic tub liner and surround over the old bathtub --this is a quick and less costly way to redo an old tub.

      • Bring in a new toilet.

      • Remove the door to the guest room and close it off.

      • Replace the guest vanity with a luxury corner shower and tile surround (figure B).

      • Remove the wall and pocket door.

      • Replace the outdated vanity with two console sinks.

      • Install a ceramic floor.

      • Create a new lighting plan.

    3. To begin the demolition, the mirror over the vanity was removed, and the door to the guest room removed.

Safety Tip: You need to wear long sleeves and eye and hand protection when removing mirrors.

In the second segment, the old pocket door is removed and the walls knocked down that section off the room, and the sink and vanity are removed.
