    1. John and Mary (the homeowners) chose a White Carrera marble countertop with a polished face. The marble is called white Carrera from a quarry in Italy. It’s known for it' s white background with gray veining. However, there are quarries all over the world that produce a wide range of different marble.

Note: White Carrera marble cost approximately $40 a sq. ft.

    2. With a double-bowl vanity and drop in sinks, the installers left the sink cutouts in (figure A) until they carried the countertop to the bathroom. It adds stability to the marble when they are carrying it. They then cut it out with a diamond blade saw.

Note: A 5" diamond blade segmented for dry cutting was used on the cuts.

    3. After the countertop was set in place, they used silicone to seal it in place.

    4. Once they sawed the cutouts, they used double suction cups and with a five foot aluminum rail to hold the cut out from falling through the hole (figure B).

    5. Once the marble countertop was installed, the cabinet doors and drawers were reattached.

In the final episode (4 or 4) of our "Art Deco" bathroom renovation, the rail tile is set and the base cove is set around the floor. The classic toilet, sink and faucets are installed -- and the final components (medicine cabinets, light and glass panel) are put into place.
