Finishing Basement: Carpet Panels From "Weekend Handyman" episode WKH-401

Host Paul Ryan finishes the basement with carpet panels that are easily cut to size with a utility knife. He tries various layouts with the two panel colors until he finds a pattern he likes.

Modular Carpet Squares

1. Measure the room and make sure you don't end up with a sliver of carpet at the end of the room.

2. To cut panel, mark cut line. Use utility knife to cut panels (figure A). It takes a few passes because you're cutting through pad, moisture barrier and the carpet.

3. In order to achieve a wall-to-wall look, make sure the panels are snug together and no fibers are trapped between the panels (figure B).

4. Vacuum the floor when finished so panels disappear (figure C).
