A weekend of work can take an unfinished space...
|
| |

that has a concrete floor and not much else...
|
| |

and turn it into a cozy family room just waiting for fun.
|
| |

Just look at the floor now!

Run grain horizontally if you want to make the room look bigger. 2. Measure and draw outlet locations on paneling (figure A). Drill pilot hole with spade bit (figure B), finishing up outlet cutout with a jig saw (figure C).
3. Dryfit panel to wall, marking edges of paneling on wall for reference when applying adhesive (figure D).4. Use heavy-duty construction adhesive applied with an 1/8" u-notched trowel (figure E).
5. Apply about two tubes of mastic per each panel, and spread it out using the trowel making sure to pull adhesive all the way to the edges. Work fast because adhesive sets in about 10 minutes.6. Put up first bamboo panel. Start at the center of room so you end up with equal-sized pieces on both ends (figure F). 7. Cut end pieces to size using a rail-guided circular saw with an 80-tooth carbide blade (figure G). This protects the edges of the panel so you don't splinter the edges of the thin bamboo paneling.
8. If you need to make adjustments, use a shim (figure H).9. Use a hole saw to make cutouts for light fixtures (figure I).
Brazilian Cherry Railing1. To get a nice seam, you want to cut rails at an angle. Set compound miter saw at 45 degree angle and cut edges of paneling to give a beveled cut (figure J). 2. Measure and mark stud locations on railing. Nail railing directly to the studs. 3. Use laser level to set placement of rail over seam (figure K).
4. Use impulse nailer to secure the rail to the paneling (figure L).5. Apply coat of sealer to protect the wood (figure M).
