This is a small room, and once again, the floor plan was helpful in determining furniture that will fit its design proportions. And to keep the room serene, a fairly monochromatic color scheme (using the same color palette, with just a variation in color intensities) is used to accent the space.

Steps:- A cabinetry unit is placed flush against the wall and partially wraps around a second wall to provide storage for this small space (figure A).
- A small sofa, upholstered in a light fabric, is placed on the wall across from the windows.
Tip: Spruce up old furniture with new fabrics to cut costs when decorating. - A rattan chair, with seafoam-green cushions, floats in the room, angled toward the couch.
- Textures are juxtaposed: rustic green corduroy cushions nestle next to silvery-gray satin pillows on the couch.
- A gold-colored pillow accents the green fabric on the chair and enhances the color of the rattan (figure B).
- A throw in coordinating colors is tossed on the couch. Throws make a room look more inviting and relaxed -- but never fold them neatly; instead, casually toss them over furniture for a comfortable look.
- A picture with all the room colors in the palette is hung at eye level.
- Rattan floor pillows, in several color shades, are tossed in a pile (figure C).
- Shelves are removed from the bookcase to open up the look of the space and to allow for taller, stronger room accents. Consider using interesting book jackets as art: stand the book facing forward on the shelf, instead of just showing the spine.
- Large balls covered in rough-textured natural materials fill a bowl and create a focal point on the coffee table (figure D).
- Make instant art! One blank wall is filled with a homemade fabric collage (figure E). Purchase different-sized pieces of canvas (stretched over a wooden frame) at an art store and cover with fabrics that coordinate with your room. Staple fabric tightly to the canvas, attaching first the longer sides, then the shorter sides (figure F). Wrap corners as you would a gift, then staple (figure G). Hang from nails in an overlapping pattern.
With your room finished, light some candles, roll out your yoga mat and soak up the serene atmosphere in your new favorite spot.
