    Picnic-table kits typically cost about $60.

    Materials:

    Drill, with drill bits, spade bits and a Phillips driver bit
    Router
    Picnic-table kit, which should include all necessary hardware

    1. Assemble the leg braces, which brace the seats and the table top.
    2. Attach the seats to the leg braces by screwing them in place (figure A).
    3. Attach the top of the picnic table with carriage bolts. The smooth heads of the bolts should be on top of the table, and the bolts should be secured from beneath the table (figure B). For added comfort, round off the edges of the table planks with a 1/2" round-over router bit.
    4. Drill a 1 1/2" hole in the center of the table so that you can use a picnic umbrella with the table. You'll probably need an umbrella stabilizer (figure C ) underneath the table. Many new stabilizers are weighted with water or sand, which you can add yourself.
