    Topics covered on today's episode:

Fixing a hole in a bathroom wall

Determining how much drywall you need for a room*

Choices of wood for finishing the interior walls of a four-seasons room

    Installing Durock (R)

Repairing and sealing a window in a garage door

New rods for old casement windows

    Why windows sweat

Getting rid of black areas on wooden windowsills to refinish them

    Varnish strippers

Distressing, painting and sealing an unfinished desk

Removing rust and restoring a herring barrel

    Stripping grasscloth from walls

    Tips:

    • When working alone, temporary blocks screwed to the studs will support your wallboard panel until you can secure it with screws.

    • At the end of a long day of drywall mudding, wipe down the inside of the compound pails with a damp sponge to remove any deposits. Left alone, the deposits would solidify and drop into the mud, causing trouble down the line.

    • When replacing windowpanes, remember that a snug pane can break as the window frame moves or shrinks. That's why glass should be cut 1/8" smaller than the overall height and width of the actual opening.

    • To keep a locked window locked, drill a hinge-pin-size hole through the lower sash into the upper sash, being careful not to drill all the way through. Slide the hinge pin through the two holes to lock them together.

    • Toothpickd are great for applying glue in tight areas with precise control.
