Saturday, April 26 What a day! We worked from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., framing the house. It was my first time framing, and what an experience! I am so grateful to all the wonderful people who came out to help from Queen's College as well as other HIPs (Home Owners in Process). By the time I left, I was muddy and tired. We worked in the rain and the shine, and it was all worth it. The house means achieving a dream for me as well as independence. I can do whatever I like in my house -- play my music loud, stomp on the floors or paint the walls neon colors if I like. It gives me peace of mind that I have fulfilled a goal. The Habitat process has only intensified that pride of being a homeowner because of the sweat equity that we are required to do. It really makes me appreciate my home knowing the work what I and others put into it. The fellowship in building the home makes the experience more dramatic because you are working side by side with others who know what you are going through and will one day reach this goal too. Monday, April 28 Today we finished framing the house, and they started on the roof. It was bright and sunny, so we had wonderful weather to work in. It was not as muddy as Saturday. My mom and uncle helped me today as well as the wonderful group from Bank of America. It was evident that everyone really came to work! Tuesday, April 29 Another sunny, hot day. Today the temperature was over 85 degrees -- hard to believe for the many people who were working tirelessly on the roof. The shingles were put on as well as the installation of the windows. The house was also prepped for the siding to be put on. Our home is really coming together quickly with the help of all the volunteers. As always, the Americorps personnel are so patient and knowledgeable. Today volunteers from Queen's College and Elogex came out to help, and they were wonderful. Their spirit, positive attitude and HARD work is much appreciated.
