  • Power and DCC: Digital Command Control
  • Find out how to control multiple trains at once with new technology.
    From "Workin' On the Railroad"
    episode DWRR-106L

    (Continued from page 1)

    • There are a number of different types of decoder installations and some are easier than others--but none are too difficult. For example, this HO Scale model train has a small socket (figure F) in the back of the locomotive made for specifically plugging in a decoder. This is a no soldering solution.

    • Another solution where soldering isn't necessary is with a locomotive that has a built-in circuit board (figure G) with a light, which hooks up to the motor. The decoder (seen in front of the circuit board in figure G) is made to simply drop right in place on the circuit board.

    Starter Systems

    • You must have a starter system, and David and Chris start with the most basic starter available for DCC--a Bachmann "easy command" starter (figure H) system that can run up to 10 locomotives at a time.

    • The NCE (figure I) basic system that has a lot of advanced features of a regular DCC system, but it's made for beginners.

Note: Basically these starters are two wires that go to the track...all systems go!
