    Tips:

    • Did you know? Automatic dishwashers were invented in the 1880's, but didn't catch on for home use until the 1950's because most homes didn't have hot water.

    • Did you know? To spare his mother from braving the elements in the bone-chilling winters of North Dakota, J. Ross Moore built an oil-heated drum in a shed next to his house and thereby created the first clothes dryer.

    • Try dabbing a bit of white correction fluid on white appliances for temporary touch-ups.

    • Compact fluorescent bulbs produce three to four times more light than incandescent lights using the same amount of electricity.

    • Wattage does not measure the amount of light -- it measures the energy needed to light the bulb. The amount of light is measured in lumens. Carefully study bulb packages to get the most light for your wattage.

    • Many people are using small outdoor lanterns indoors to accent powder rooms, small foyers, and stairways.
