For greatest efficiency, your refrigerator should open into your kitchen work area. If it doesn't, you can reverse the doors. Materials: ratchet and socket set
masking tape - Remove food and other items from the doors. If you think the project will take longer than 15 minutes, turn off the refrigerator.
- Use masking tape to hold the door in place when you remove the hinges (figure A). You may want to have someone help you.
- Use a ratchet or wrench to remove the three bolts holding the top hinge in place (figure B). Keep the parts together.
- Remove the freezer door, and transfer the handle to the other side of the door.
- Remove the middle hinge, which has a pin for both the top and bottom door (figure C).
- Remove the refrigerator door, and transfer the handle to the other side of the door.
- Remove the bottom grille from the refrigerator, and transfer the bottom hinge to the other side (figure D).
- Place the refrigerator door on the bottom hinge, and attach the middle hinge to the refrigerator.
- Place the freezer door on the middle hinge pin, and attach the top hinge. The top hinge has slots that allow you to adjust the position of the freezer door.
You'll need to remove plastic plugs (figure E) from the mounting holes on the other side of the door. Simply transfer these plugs to the holes that are no longer in use.
