The archway waterfall, with water cascading over frosted glass, makes for a spectacular focal point in the entryway to this interior designer's home.

In this episode of DIY's Waterscapes workshop, host Heidi Robinson is joined by water-garden expert Randall Tate and by contractor Christopher Sterchi for the installation of a magnificent indoor water feature. This dramatic water fountain is highlighted by water cascading over two sheets of frosted glass into a stainless-steel tub. The cascading water is illuminated from below by submersible lights. The finished waterfall highlights a built-in archway that separates an entryway from a master bath -- and is visible from both sides of the archway. In this segment, the newly installed indoor waterfall is finalized and given a trial run.

Archway Waterfall: Finishing Touches - With the frosted glass backdrops, stainless steel components installed and submersible pump installed, and all the operating components connected, the waterfall can be filled with water (figure A) and tested to make sure that all elements are operating properly.
- Once the bottom basin is filled, and the pump completely submerged, the fixture is plugged into an electrical outlet. Within just a few seconds, the water pours out of the upper basin over the stainless steel sheet forming a smooth curtain of water (figure B).
- Heidi and Randall then check to ensure that the waterfall is also operating properly on the other side of the feature -- inside the master bathroom (figure C). Now that the water feature is installed and operational, the construction of the brick bathroom wall can be completed. First, however, the electrical supply cords for the watedr feature are concealed within the framework of the wall so that they won't be visible once the entryway and bathroom are finished.
- A wooden surround was added later to frame the water fountain on the entryway side. On the bathroom side, the fountain is surrounded by a mosaic marble tile and Mexican limestone. The neutral colors of the bathroom walls reflect off of the stainless steel plate, giving it a warm, copper appearance.
- Small submersible lights installed in the lower basin, and angled upward (figure D), provide dramatic illumination for the water and frosted-glass backdrop.

The waterfall is visible on both sides of the wall in which the archway was built. Here it is seen from the master bathroom where the water theme is in keeping with the room's decorative motif..

If you're attracted to the look and sound of falling water, you may want to consider installing a water garden in your yard. But an outdoor pond and fountain is not your only choice. Indoor water features can bring the tranquil feel of a fountain inside and be a highlight in your home.
