Fave New Products for 2006, Part 2

    By Joe Lamp'l

Never one to leave a job half done, I'm back this week and ready to offer the second of two successive columns with the results of my staff's selection of the best new tools being shown at 2006 garden shows around the country.

The Fab 14 products make the list for one or all of three reasons. First, they must be unique and fill an important void in the resources available to gardeners. Second, a listed product may be similar to another currently on the market, but because of a design enhancement or special feature, the new product is deemed superior. Third, it may appear simply because it is still the best on the market, successfully defending itself from new wanna-bes seeking to replace it.

    The list continues:

    Watering Wonderland

    • Aqua Vor Easy Feeding Cans: The integrated design eliminates multiple trips and messy measuring or mixing. A two-position rotating spout allows for delicate flow or fast delivery, while the interchangeable fertilizer cartridge makes it easy to select and dispense a variety of liquid products right from the can. Visit www.aquavor.com for pricing and availability.

    • Dramm Watering Wands: These wands feature a lifetime guarantee and fingertip shut-off valves that reduce overall water consumption by applying water where and when you want it. Visit www.dramm.com to see the full selection of Dramm products.

    • Nelson Nozzle Sprayers: The ergonomic, point-and-click design makes watering more comfortable. No need for constant hand activation with the state-of-the-art, thumb-activated flow-control nozzles that feature up to eight patterns of spray. Visit www.lrnelson.com for more information.

    • Treegator: The original portable drip irrigation system in a bag. These innovative bags, designed specially for new plantings, slowly deliver water directly to the root zone over an extended period. This smart design allows for deep-water saturation with no run-off evaporation. Two sizes available at www.treegator.com.

    Cool Coverings

    • GreenJeans: These heavy-duty chaps with built-in kneepads and hang-from-the-waist design aids in preventing loss of circulation. The chaps slip on and off quickly over pants and boots for an easy transition in and outside. Available in four sizes at www.muscleandarmfarm.com.

    • West County Gardener Gloves: These gloves are designed to help gardeners work with comfort and ease. Available in a wide array of styles, sizes and colors to match most gardening needs, the high-tech, medium-weight gloves are durable and washer/dryer safe. Visit www.westcountygardener.com for more information and store locations.

    • GardenArmor Gloves: These unique gloves provide unsurpassed cut and puncture resistance. They're made with SuperFabric brand material. These washable, durable gloves offer gardeners 90 times the puncture resistance of regular gloves, providing the toughest protection yet against yard and garden hazards. Available at www.safegrasp.com in a variety of styles and sizes.

    • BugBand: The new BugBand products feature all-natural, pleasant smelling Geraniol, which has been proven more effective at repelling biting insects than DEET and citronella. Visit www.bugband.net.
