- Master Gardener volunteers do all of the work: preparing the soil, planting the vegetables, weeding the beds, watering the crops, treating for insects and disease, harvesting, and finally, delivering the produce to a handful of charitable organizations throughout the county.
- One corner of the garden has been set aside for local grade-school children, who work alongside the Master Gardeners for a first-hand lesson in the magic of gardening.
- The Plant A Row for the Hungry campaign was launched in 1995 by the Garden Writers Association of America. They ask local gardeners to plant one extra row of vegetables in their gardens, and then donate that extra produce to local soup kitchens or food banks.
