Plants for planter above the garage:

    Regal geranium
    Pelargonium domesticum

Regal geraniums produce large flowers about two to five inches across but stop blooming when nighttime temperatures get above 60 degrees. In many climates, best flowering occurs in spring and fall. The flowers are usually bi-color.

  • Regal geraniums prefer some afternoon shade in hot summers.

    Licorice plant
o This plant is grown for its velvet like foliage.
o Most licorice plants have silvery foliage, but they can have lime green foliage
o It grows about 18 to 24 inches high
o It's used as an annual but in zones 9 and 10 is a perennial
o Maintenance tip: Do not over-water. They rot with wet feet

    Wax begonia

Wax begonias are grown for its colorful, waxy foliage and its flowers that bloom from summer through to first frost.

  • It prefers sun, but the foliage can burn in intense sun. Give it part shade in warm climates.
  • It is a perennial in USDA Zones 9-11 and used as an annual elsewhere.

    Additional container

Jason used a container near the garage to help further soften the look of the garage. We used a very heavy container that will not "walk away" in this busy urban neighborhood.

The container plants include the following:

    Heliotrope
    Heliotropium arborescens

This annual is known for its fragrance, which is comparable to cherry pie. Its flowers can be blue, violet or white.

  • It grows about 18 to 36 inches high.
  • It prefers sun to part shade.

    Cuban oregano
    Plectranthus amboinicus

The foliage of this colorful plant resembles coleus. It's used as a culinary herb in Cuban and Spanish cooking.

  • It's a perennial in USDA Zones 10-11 and used as an annual (often in containers) elsewhere.
  • It prefers full to part sun.

    Dwarf fothergilla
    Fothergilla gardenii

Fothergilla is a low-maintenance, deciduous shrub that produces fragrant white flowers in April and May.

  • It grows about 2 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide.
  • It prefers full sun to part shade.
  • Native to southeastern U.S.
  • USDA Zones 5-8
