- This plant has dark purple foliage with pinkish-purple flowers.
- It's a fast grower.
- It grows to about 15 inches tall with a 12 to 15 inch spread.
- It tolerates heat, drought and poor soil.
- Zones 3-9
- Cost: $30 for 2.
Little Henry Itea
- It's small and grows to only 2-3 feet high and won't hide the porch.
- Doesn't require pruning.
- White flowers in early summer, kind of like fat pipe cleaners.
- Blood red foliage in fall.
- Discovered at a nursery not too far from Louise's house (Burlington, KY) so it will thrive in this climate.
- Likes full sun, but will grow in partial shade.
White Dome Hydrangea
- It has white dome-shaped flowers that arrive in mid-summer.
- This hydrangea grows 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide.
- Water regularly.
- It can grow 6-8 feet tall, but it can be kept smaller with pruning.
- It does well in zones 4-9.
- Cost: $40.
- Maintenance Tip: Mulch to keep roots cool.
