    • Alleghany Viburnum
      Viburnum x rhytidophylloides 'Alleghany'
      This Viburnum has leather-like semi-evergreen leaves that are greenish gray and bears bright red fruit in the fall. It can grow from 6 to 8 feet tall and wide. It performs well in zones 5-8, grows in full sun to part shade, but will have the best flower and fruit display if planted in full sun.
      Cost: $172 for 3.

      Maintenance Tip: Pruning this Viburnum is not required, but you can trim it for size.

    • White Dome Hydrangea
      Hydrangea arborescens 'White Dome'
      True to its name, this Hydrangea has white dome-shaped flowers that arrive in mid-summer. The plant grows 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. It requires regular watering and does well in zones 4-9.
      Cost : $40.

      Maintenance Tip: Mulch around the Hydrangea to keep the roots cool.

    • Silver Dragon Liriope
      Liriope spicata 'Silver Dragon'
      This Liriope has green leaves with silvery stripes. It grows about 10 inches high and 15 to18 inches wide. Silver Dragon liriope is a great plant for groundcover or edging. Expect pale purple flowers in summer followed by berries. It does well in zones 6-11.
      Cost: $378 for 47.

      Maintenance Tip: Remove old foliage in early spring before new leaves emerge.

      There are hundreds of varieties of mums in various sizes and colors. Some are perennials and some are annuals. They can be planted in all zones. Plant them in full sun.

      This evergreen is a moderate grower. It can grow 15 feet tall but only about 5 feet wide. It does well in full sun to part shade. Hetzii performs well in much of the country (zones 3-9).

      Maintenance Tip: To encourage blooming, remove spent flowers.

      This grass was named "Perennial Plant of the Year" for 2001. It has deep, shiny green foliage and pinkish-bronze flowers that bloom in May or June
