John Poswall is a backyard gardener with big ideas. He started with a 50 acre blank slate and has now has 14 different gardens going with no end in sight. If you've ever felt like you were in a gardening rut, he's just the gardener to look to for a little inspiration. He's created rose, Italian, cactus and succulent gardens along with a swamp, a miniature golf course and even his own version of Stonehenge.
John does a lot of these projects himself, but he also gets some help from a few gardeners that are willing to work with his colorful and offbeat ideas. They've even learned to deal with his aversion to plans. Each one of these gardens started out as an idea and went straight to the install and every one of them is a work in progress just how John likes it. The secret to his success is truly all about the attitude. He's not a plant expert and he certainly doesn't spend top dollar either. A lot of the items you'll find in his garden are recycled, like the broken pots he sunk in the ground and even rescued palm trees from someone who planted them in the wrong place. John believes you'll get the best results if you play the garden game by ear, "If it doesn't look right or it doesn't really fit, put a climbing plant on it, that'll cover up your mistakes." This garden-by-the-seat-of-your-pants philosophy of John's is sure working for him and it may be the key to unlocking your inner design guru.
