After some general sprucing up, a new garden bench is added along with containers of flowers, and the Harders' yard has a completely new look.
- Originally the yard was divided into two sections, with the garden completely obscured behind a privacy fence (figure A). To open up the yard, the tall fence was removed and replaced by a shorter picket fence, designed to include unique details. After some demolition, the new fence, along with a little cleanup, gives the space an entirely new, open, airy look (figure B).
The new design not only opens up the space, it also invites visitors to come in and enjoy the landscape (figure C). Flowers and a new bench help define and accent the space, while the new arbor leads the eye across to the new decorative fountain (figure D) (figure E).
April and Sean are thrilled with the new open look of their spacious yard. They are also happy about the money they saved by doing the project themselves, along with the help of friends and co-workers. They spent $1,000 for the entire yard transformation and saved approximately $300 by doing the work themselves.
