The new seating/stage area is nearly complete. Now it's time for the finishing touches.
The planting beds are marked off with landscape paint and the sod is removed with a sod cutter. Plants are then spotted around the beds and planted.A short set of steps is constructed on one side of the platform (figure A). They are framed much like the deck itself, just on a smaller scale, using the same composite decking (figure B). Finally, the curtains are hung (figure C).
It's been said that "all the world's a stage," and for this family that couldn't be more true. Their love of entertaining makes this sturdy platform the perfect place for guests to sit and enjoy the evening -- and it provides the Baehr children with the perfect space to perform. And with the $1,700 the family saved by doing the work themselves (they spent $1,880), they are already thinking about new project, and several new theme parties are in the planning stages.
