We are nearing the end of the slope transformation. Water drainage has been redirected with the help of boulders and stones. Ground cover, grasses, perennials, trees and annuals are in place to help stop soil run-off and enhance the woodland look of the area (figure A). Now it's time for the finishing touches.

Sixteen-inch holes are dug for the lettered posts, they are then set in place, checked for plumb and backfilled with dirt (figure B).

As a final touch a 2" layer of mulch is distributed up the hillside to help hold moisture and provide a backdrop for the stones and plants (figure C).

At last the hillside is done. Boulders have tamed the slope without building an unsightly retaining wall. Where there was once a serious drainage problem, there is now a natural solution that fits in perfectly with this woodsy setting (figure D) (figure E). Where there was very little functional vegetation there are now colorful plants and trees that will help prevent erosion (figure F). And centering the new hillside are welcoming posts that offer insight into the Fleming family heritage.
