Grass Cutting Heights1. Dont let your grass grow really tall then cut it all off in one mowing.
2. Never mow off more than 1/3 of the leaf blade at a time.
3. Mowing once a week should be sufficient. But if youve had a lot of rain and the grass has grown rapidly between mowings, you may have to mow more than once a week to honor the 1/3 rule.
Here are the recommended heights that grasses need to be cut:
- Bermuda at 1 to 2 inches
- St. Augustine at 2 to 4 inches
- Fine Fescue at 1-1/2; Tall Fescue at 2-1/2 to 3 inches
- Blue 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inches
- Rye at 1-1/2 to 2-1/2
- Zoysia from 3/4 to 2 inches
- Centipede at 1-1/2 inches
Mowing Tips
1. Adjust the mowers height using the knob/notches near the wheels.
2. Dont mow when the grass is wet. It will clog up the mower and leave clumps on your lawn that could kill it.
3. Alternate mowing directions. Go up and down one time. Go back and forth the next. This will lessen the compaction stress on your grass.
4. Dont mow up and down hills. Mow across them.
