    Aspidistra elatior — cast iron plant
    Zones 7 to 11

    • It lives up to its common name — cast iron. According to some, the plant is so practically grows in the dark.
    • Large evergreen basal leaves and small, brownish bell-shaped flowers
    • Slow-growing shade plant
    • 2 feet tall; 2 feet wide — clumping habit
    • Often used as a house plant

    Care for cast iron plant:

    • Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a good root system. Then, reduce watering.
    • Feed with a general-purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.
