The planted border is now complete -- and stunning! Host Maureen Gilmer sets off its beauty with a few pots of daylilies and a layer of mulch.
Steps 1. To top off the smartly planned border, daylilies (Hemerocallis) are added (figure A). These are some of the easiest flowers to grow. 2. Rich mulch is also brought in to give the new plants a great start (figure B). Expert Tip: (Dave Reynolds, Monrovia Growers) Mulching holds weeds down to a bare medium. After 16 hours of work, Maureen has finished the brilliant shrub border. A dull, sparsely planted bed at the edge of this lawn (figure C) has now been turned into cascading levels of foliage that gracefully steps down into the yard (figure D). She did it in just one weekend -- and so can you!
