    Steps

    1. To give a walking surface inside the arbor, use mulch to make a mud free surface. Spread it from the back to the front. Spread it by hand to get nice, precise corners (figure A). It may look thick, but it will become packed down quickly.

    2. Bring in a potted topiary. We brought in a Texas privet (Ligustrum texanum). It’s incredibly heat tolerant (figure B).

    Expert Tip: (Frank McDonough, horticulturist) Putting a potted plant in a garden is a great way to vary and bring interest to the garden.

    After 15 hours of work, Maureen has finished her privacy garden (figure C). It’s an old southern style garden that looks amazing! She did it in just one weekend -- and so can you!
